Game of Thrones’ season 7 finale: The 4 biggest takeaways from ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’For all the hype of how the season 7 finale of HBO’s. TWX, - 0. 3. 6%. .

Game of Thrones” was its longest episode to date, much of “The Dragon and the Wolf” felt like unnecessary filler. I mean, while realism is always appreciated, “Go. T” really didn’t have to emulate C- Span when it came to portraying the drawn- out, and, frankly, boring summit between the three Westerosi monarchs. It wasn’t until the end that things finally got moving, which was likely the plan all along, and boy, did it work. Read on for our four biggest takeaways from “The Dragon and the Wolf”: Westeros is, to quote Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow, a colorful expletive. Did anyone really need the snooze- worthy King’s Landing meet- up to determine that these bickering houses are all “f- -- ed”? We’ve known this since even before Viserion got a second shot at life.

Game (of Thrones)- changer. In the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers, we now leave Westeros in peril: The dragon Viserion, viciously murdered and then turned into a wight by the Night King in last week’s episode, has destroyed the Wall with a series of ice- blue flames, allowing the White Walkers to enter the kingdom in droves. Related: What's behind the rise of the Iron Bank? This development leaves new allies Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister – not to mention everyone who lives in Westeros – as little more than sitting ducks, at least until 2.

But we got an immensely satisfying ending on the Littlefinger front. Sansa never took her eye off you, Littlefinger. I freely admit I was having my doubts about Arya Stark last week, but at the same time, I always knew that the years Sansa Stark spent under Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish’s tutelage hadn’t gone to waste. The lady of Winterfell could see the scheming lord’s plan to drive a wedge between her and her assassin sister from miles away, and tonight, Littlefinger got the comeuppance we’ve been waiting for since season 1. The Stark sisters, plus brother Bran, staged a trial that, on the surface, looked to charge the murderous Arya with treason. But in truth, it was Littlefinger who faced a jury of his peers. This scene was a giant relief following the head- scratcher of an exchange between Sansa and her shady longtime mentor, in which Littlefinger tried to convince the elder Stark sister that Arya was plotting to become the lady of Winterfell.

Anyone who’s watched “Game of Thrones” knows that’s a pile of nonsense, so to see the tables once and for all turned on Lord Baelish, who pathetically resorted to falling on his knees in a futile plea for mercy, was a rewarding moment worth the wait. That and seeing Arya slash his throat with the Valeryian steel dagger Littlefinger tried giving to Bran was just the icing on a giant, delectable cake of a scene.

Jon Snow has officially been revealed as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Oh, this is going to make for some really, really awkward pillow talk between Westeros’ newest power couple, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, who consummated their season- long mutual crush tonight. In the ultimate mood- killing voice- over – yep, Bran pretty much narrated Jon and Dany’s love scene – Bran informs Samwell Tarly (who finally arrived at Winterfell!) of the vision he had in last year’s season finale. By doing so, Bran states for the record, once and for all, that Jon is the offspring of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. But that’s not the real kicker: Sam, who totally took credit for Gilly’s even bigger discovery a couple of episodes back, tells Bran that Jon is not a bastard after all, as Lyanna and Rhaegar were secretly married.

A quick leap back in time by Three- Eyed Raven Bran confirms Sam’s claim, and now we’re left with this double whammy until next season: 1. Jon Snow just had hot sex with his Aunt Dany. He’s the rightful heir to the Iron Throne – news that will likely make his fragile alliance with Cersei and Dany implode. Get ready for some major soap- opera- level drama in the final season. No matter what happens, we need more Tyrion/Cersei scenes in the final season. Cersei, strategizing for the sake of her new family.

Cersei Lannister has never let anything stand in the way of her quest for power, even the love of her family members. She’s cold, calculating and callous, but as we’ve already seen with Ellaria Sand, there is a heart behind Cersei’s decisions. In what was one of the most emotionally wrenching scenes of the season, Cersei and her brother, Tyrion, had their long- awaited reunion tonight, and while it wasn’t pretty, it allowed us to better understand why she has such a disdain for the sibling she doesn’t like to sleep with. Cersei’s argument is that Tyrion robbed her of her parents: Their mother died giving birth to Tyrion, and Tyrion killed their monster of a father, Tywin. Also, as I’ve discussed in “The Queen’s Justice,” Cersei will always have a giant hole in her heart because all three of her children are deceased. She continues to blame Tyrion for her Joffrey’s death, although Jaime Lannister has made her aware that it was Olenna Tyrell, not Tyrion, who masterminded her son’s poisoning.

Perhaps Cersei’s latest pregnancy will bring some much- needed joy into her life, which will allow her to work with her archenemies in order to defeat the approaching White Walkers. At least until she gets the news that Jon Snow has more of a claim to the Iron Throne than she does….
